This month in the first Saturday Calvary Temple Young Adults meeting, Pastor Jeff challenged us from the passage in Mark 3 which reads, “And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach” (Mark 3:13-14 ESV)
Pastor Jeff stressed the fact that for us to be sent out to preach, and to go in power, we must be with Him first. He continued with other challenges, “How faithful are you in your calling to be with The Lord and go forth and preach?” The importance of preaching God’s Word to this dying world comes into context in Revelation:
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. (Revelation 20:11-12 ESV)
One day, we are going to stand before the Great and Mighty Judge, and sinners will be judged. Does that sober you? Pastor Jeff asked us how we are going to be humble and overcome the world’s draw on us and go forth. He said, “Our only hope to break the idealism and philosophy of the world is to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.”
We were then given a list of the attributes of Jesus that will allow us to walk as He walked:
Those Attributes of Jesus that we will experience if we are walking as He walked:
- full of power
- full of the Holy Ghost
- the servant of All
- walked in absolute surrender to the Will of his Father
Do these attributes describe your life? Or do you have some work to do to be more like Him?
One of the main aspects from the teaching was that, the first step of being filled with the Holy Spirit is knowing your Father intimately.
Pastor Jeff then challenged us with a quote from a missionary he was reading about who said, “Are you doing everything you can do with everything that you have to make sure that people know Jesus?” What a great and humbling challenge. If we are really honest with our hearts, are we truly doing everything? Ask yourself that question today.
Pastor Jeff then finished the teaching with some great challenges and reminders:
- To see the Spirit move and to see revival we must be intercessors
- Are your thoughts and mind consumed with sharing the gospel?
- Are we fasting the things that we enjoy in this temporal life to be able to get away and hear from God?
The final challenge I will leave you with for this month is this verse from Isaiah:
On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. (Isaiah 62:6-7 ESV)
Are you a watchman today? Know God, and Preach the Word.
